‘scape 2 / 2009 (December)
Theme: sustainable urban design
There is no question, we have to work on a better environment, and we have to take our measurement against climate change. And so, you could say, sustainable urban planning and design are hot. Isocarp and IFHP, two international groups of urban planners and designers, both organized a congress on this theme in 2009. The Isocarp-congress ended with a statement, not only on how to reduce energy use and change to alternative energy sources, but as well on making sustainable cities, which also means safer, healthier, fairer. And flexible, they could have added.
In this issue of ‘scape we want to explore the way in which architects, landscape architects and urban planners can contribute to this theme.
